American
Fibers & Yarns Announces Addition of Marquesa® Plush
to Luxury Family of Products
New Yarn Marks Unrivaled Softness, Aesthetics, Color
and Design for both Residential and Contract Fabrics
CHAPEL HILL, N.C., January 06, 2003— American Fibers and Yarns Company
(AF&Y), a premier supplier of synthetic filament yarn to the home furnishings
and contract markets, today announces their all-new Marquesa® Plush,
an acrylic replacement technology to join the Marquesa® Luxury Family
of Products for residential and contract fabrics. This innovative technology
is engineered to produce a yarn with unique combinations not previously
offered in the industry. Marquesa® Plush yarns are specifically designed
for extra softness and cover for chenilles and velvets.
From initial product conception, AF&Y faced the challenge of producing
a yarn with the aesthetics of acrylic while maintaining the inherent performance
and durability properties of polyolefin. Marquesa® Plush is engineered
to combine the aesthetics of the high priced acrylic fabrics with the improved
economics and performance of traditional olefin products. In combination
with a 25% yield advantage, fabric manufacturers can now offer high styled
aesthetically pleasing fabrics with the durability, stain resistance and
cleanability of traditional olefin products.
“
The Marquesa® Plush yarn is truly an AF&Y textile masterpiece,
marking unrivaled softness, aesthetics, color and design for both
residential and contract fabrics,” states Michael Apperson, CEO of
AF&Y. “Based
on customer feedback, we realized there was a need in the marketplace
for a yarn with the durable characteristics of traditional olefins, while
maintaining
the hand, luster and look of an acrylic, in other words—a high performance
acrylic replacement. We heard the message loud and clear and produced
a yarn which has surprised everyone and has been received with favorable
attention
and enthusiasm. Marquesa® Plush is the first new modified olefin technological
advancement developed in years. Therefore, the market now has at
its fingertips the aesthetics of acrylic with the superior performance characteristics
of traditional olefins.”
Based on industry standard fabric constructions,
the Marquesa® Plush
yarns meet all requirements for seam slippage, tensile strength,
piling, abrasion and colorfastness. The additional features and
benefits of the
new Marquesa® Plush are traditional olefin properties: low specific
gravity, colorfastness, stain resistance, bleach compatibility,
pill resistance, durability, ease of care and resistance to fading.
The Marquesa® Plush
yarn exceeds market needs for all applications requiring top of
the line softness, luster and cover for everything from stadium
and theater seating,
to residential and contract upholstery and woven wall coverings.
It is anticipated that this new technology will open new application
areas for AF
